Pac Striders Weekend Run, Sunday Apr 8 and the weekend of April 14

Hi Everyone,

We are going to cover the runs for this weekend and next weekend. Dan Meredith has agreed to step in this week as the guest coordinator, so we handed him the reins. He pulled hard to the east for a run we haven't done in a while. Briones is a fairly hilly run with beautiful panoramic views of Mount Diablo and the terrain east of the bay ridge. It is about 7 miles as we usually do it. It will commence sunday morning at 8:30. Thank you Dan!

Next week, we won't be around to do the e-mail, so here's the scoop. Saturday the 14th, the Lake Merritt Joggers and Striders are having their second Saturday fun run. We are declaring this the official Strider Weekend Run, it should be a great one. See the info on this run and the LMJS potluck below. Those of you insisting on a Sunday run, meet at Skyline Gate at 8:30 on the 15th. Directions to all of the events are below.

Trail Directions for Briones

Head out on the main trail from the parking lot (Old Briones Road Trail). In 0.17 miles, you will come to an easy not to notice fork in the trail, where you will want to go right (the easy not to notice one) toward the archery range. Go .47 miles to Seaborg Trail (used to be Holmstead) and go right. Here you will climb 1.03 miles then through a gate to go left on Briones Crest Trail. Stay on Briones Crest Trail to Table Top Trail, where you will go right. As I recall this intersection, it will be more like going straight to get on to Table Top. Table Top will loop back onto Briones Crest where you will turn left. Briones Crest will come to Old Briones Road Trail where you will turn right then take a left 0.10 miles later onto Briones Crest. So you never really leave Briones Crest. Go .56 miles and take a left on Mott's Peak, then a left on Black Oak Trail 0.36 miles down Mott's Peak. You will once again intersect Old Briones Road Trail where you take a right to head back to the parking lot.

Driving Directions for Briones

From Oakland/Berkeley, go thru the Caldecott Tunnel on Hwy 24 to the Orinda/Moraga exit. Turn left (north) onto Camino Pablo, and go 2 miles to the traffic light at Wildcat Canyon Road/Bear Creek Road. Turn right onto Bear Creek Road and continue straight 4.4 miles. DO NOT TURN LEFT into the first dirt parking lot, but instead continue onwards to the park entrance on the RIGHT side of the road. There is a charge for parking at the lot if you are not a regional park member (hint!); you also have the option of parking along Bear Creek Road before the entrance and running a short distance into the parking lot area.
