Pac Striders Weekend Run, Sun Jul 9, 8:30, The new Tilden run

Hi Everyone,
I gave the mild mannered mid-western man his choice of runs for this weekend, and he was curious about this one. I guess he's tired of flat running. We need to name this run by the way..

This run starts out tame enough, taking Selby trail from Golf Course Rd. to Lake Anza, then through Wildcat Gorge. From Lone Oak, the water and bathrooms go away and the climbing begins up Meadow Canyon, across Wildcat Canyon Rd., and up Seaview Trail (Bay Ridge Trail) to Vollmer Peak Trail. Returning down Lupine trail, cross South Park Drive to pick up Golf Course Trail at the Elder picnic area, where water and bathrooms are available. A left from Golf Course onto Redwood Trail returns you to the start. I looked at the map again and I think the total climb is not 900 ft., but closer to 1100. The reward is a variety of Bay Area vistas, fog allowing.

Directions to Strawberry Canyon

From I-80, exit at University Avenue. Proceed east on University Avenue then turn left on Oxford. Turn right on Hearst and go up the hill, then turn right on Gayley Rd. Turn left at the stop sign onto Stadium Way. and left again on Centennial Dr., which proceeds eastward up the hill from the back side of the stadium. After passing the Lawrence Hall of Science, you will come to the stop sign at Grizzly Peak Blvd. Cross Grizzly Peak Blvd and you will be on Golf Course Rd. with the parking lot coming up immediately on your right.

From Hwy. 13, follow 13 North all the way into Berkeley, where it eventually becomes Ashby Ave. Proceed on Ashby, then turn right on College. Turn right onto Dwight Way, go up the hill and turn left onto Prospect. Proceed around the stadium (to your left) to the first stop sign. Turn right onto Centennial Drive and proceed up the hill. After passing the Lawrence Hall of Science, you will come to the stop sign at Grizzly Peak Blvd. Cross Grizzly Peak Blvd and you will be on Golf Course Rd. with the parking lot coming up immediately on your right.

From 24 east, take the Fish Ranch Rd. exit, turn right onto Fish Ranch Rd, then right onto Grizzly Peak. At the intersection with Centennial Drive and Golf Course Rd, turn right onto Golf Course Rd, then turn right again into the parking area.

Have a good weekend,
Mike
