We're back to our old favorite this week, running to the Sequoia Bayview trail via Skyline Gate. There are several variations to this run, the simple out-and-back way covers 7.5 miles, while doing a keyhole loop back along Big Trees Loop or Dunn Trail can make this a 9 miler. Ask us if you have a specific distance goal in mind! Stay dry, and see you soon.
[UPDATE]: Some of the trails along Bayview have been rerouted; thanks to Mike Palmer for the heads up. Here's what he says:
In case you think it's worth an e-mail, Dan found some changes on Bayview that are not marked as of yet. Also, Big Trees Loop has been rerouted to eliminate the steep grade onto Bayview at the northern intersection.
Happy Trails,
Mike
FYI I discovered Friday morning that a short section of the Bayview trail has been rerouted this week. The change moved the Chaparral Trail junction about 100 yards east, closer to the rest rooms as you follow the Bayview trail from the Sky Line Gate area. Coming from the Skyline Drive trail head you may not notice the change. The old piece of trail has been covered with branches and debris. Coming from Sky Line Gate, I had noticed a new trail branching off the Bayview to the left but paid no attention to it until I found myself plunging down a steep rocky (unrunnable) slope. I backed up (twice) because I couldn't believe I'd wandered off a trail I'd run so many times. Then I walked up a section of trail covered with branches and debris and found myself on the Bayview Trail again within 50 ft. I continued on to Skyline Drive flipped around and on the return realized someone had built 100 yards of nice new trail. There are no trail markings so heads up!
