We almost went to Redwood Regional this weekend, but I chickened out over a mountain lion cub sighting in the area. So instead we're migrating south to Lake Chabot, where we can do a loop around the lake free of mountain lions (I hope). The full lake circuit is 9 mi., with options for shorter or longer routes.
Driving Directions
*I-580 East (Oakland/Berkeley) Exit Fairmont Avenue. Drive East to park entrance on the left.
*I-580 West (Livermore/Dublin) Exit Strobridge Avenue. Turn right on Strobridge. Turn right on Castro Valley Blvd. Turn left on Lake Chabot Road to park entrance on right.
*I-680 South (Walnut Creek) Take I-680 South to I-580 West. Follow directions above for 1-580 West.
*1-880 North (Fremont/San Jose) I-880 North to Hwy. 238 East. Exit Castro Valley. Left on Castro Valley Blvd. Left on Lake Chabot Road to park entrance on right.
There is a fee to park in the lot, but you can park along Lake Chabot Road outside the entrance for free.
