Hello All,
Jessica and I are switching running days this week so that I can run the Golden Gate Cross Country race Saturday. I think the Sunday run crowd is getting the better part of that deal.
Stream Trail loop is the run. Leaving from Skyline Gate on East Ridge, the views are good (if the fog isn't too thick) and the hills not too bad on the way out. About 4 miles out you will reach a gate where the trail ends. Turn right down Pinehurst Rd. and turn right again at the stop sign onto Redwood Rd. Turn right a third time into the Canyon entrance to Redwood Park just past the fire station. Proceed straight down the entrance road which will lead you to Stream Trail, which is straight off the parking lot at the end. There are multiple water and bathroom opportunities in the first part of Stream Trail. The last part of Stream Trail is where we hid all the hills. The full loop is 9 miles. Turning right down Canyon Trail from East Ridge shortens the loop to 6 miles, which is what Jess will probably do.
Directions
Skyline Gate can be accessed from Highway 13 in Oakland. From Highway 24 or the Berkeley area take Highway 13 south and take the Park Ave. exit. Take a left at the stoplight at the end of the ramp and a left onto Mountain Blvd. From Dublin/ Castro Valley, take I-580 west to the exit for Highway 13 north. Take the Park Ave. exit from 13 North and take a left at the end of the ramp onto Mountain Blvd.
From Mountain, take a right onto Snake Rd., then go straight onto Shepherd Canyon where Snake takes a sharp left. Continue up Shepherd Canyon to the 5 way stop where you turn right onto Skyline Blvd. Look for the Skyline Gate staging area about .5 miles on the left.
Have a good weekend,
Mike
