We're going to Mike's backyard this Sunday with a sojourn to Alameda and Bay Farm Island. Differing from past Alameda runs, we're starting from Bay Farm Island itself, at the Harbor Bay Ferry Terminal at 2 Mecartney Road. The full loop around Bay Farm Island is 6 miles. There is the option to cross the bridge to Alameda and run an out and back to Crown Memorial Beach, which adds an extra 4 miles. This will be a flat run with lovely views from the shoreline; bring water and a sturdy windbreaker.
For an overview of the Alameda run, check out our map.
DIRECTIONS:
(1) Take the HIGH ST exit in Oakland from I-880 (North or South bound) and travel along HIGH ST. following the signs toward Alameda (about 0.8 miles). Continue across the HIGH ST. Bridge (a silver bridge) into ALAMEDA and continue down HIGH ST for another 1.2 miles and make a left onto OTIS BLVD.
(2) Follow OTIS BLVD (for about 0.4 mi) and it will go over the BAY FARM ISLAND Bridge (a blue bridge). Make the first right onto ISLAND DR.
(3) Follow ISLAND DR for about go 0.8 mi and turn right onto MECARTNEY RD.
(4) Follow MECARTNEY RD for about 0.9 miles until the road ends, and then turn left into the Harbor Bay Ferry Terminal at 2 MECARTNEY RD.
