What's this, a run that's not Bayview/Inspiration Pt./Lafayette Moraga? Yes, it's true, with the first dry period since forever (not including Saturday's expected sprinkle), I'm checking out the trails on the left side of Skyline Gate. Just watch for that huge sinkhole in the beginning, though. The full East Ridge to Stream Trail route is 9 miles if you go out to Pinehurst/Redwood Rd.
Some of you will be busy at some other running events this Sunday. Shout outs to the Striders doing Zippy's 5k, a great race in Golden Gate Park to check out if you're in the City. Also happening is LMJS' Fourth Sunday Run, starting at 568 Bellevue Ave. at Oakland's Lake Merritt. Wherever you'll be, have a great weekend!
DIRECTIONS TO SKYLINE GATE: Skyline Gate can be reached from the Park Ave. exit off Highway 13 in Oakland. Heading north on 13, turn left at the stop sign at the end of the ramp onto Mountain Blvd. Turn right at the third light onto Snake Rd. Heading south on 13, take a left at the stoplight at the end of the ramp onto Park Ave., a left at the light onto Mountain Blvd., and a right onto Snake Rd. Proceed on Snake Rd. and go straight onto Shepherd Canyon Rd. where Snake takes a sharp left. Proceed up Shepherd Canyon (watch for the sharp hairpin right) until you reach a five way intersection at which you have a stop sign. Turn right onto Skyline Blvd. and look for the Skyline Gate parking lot 0.5 miles on your left.
